Paulo is a Biologist with specialization in Biochemistry, Genomics and Molecular Genetics. He did his postdoctoral training at the CRUK/Wellcome Trust Gurdon Institute and Milner Therapeutics Institute, University of Cambridge; supported by a Royal Society and British Academy Newton International Fellowship, Corpus Christi College Research Fellowship and Borysiewicz Biomedical Sciences Fellowship. He is now a postdoctoral scientist supported by FIPFARMA (Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Farmacêuticas) at CSBL. His research has explored the roles of noncoding DNA, regulatory RNAs and RNA modifications in a variety of biological systems, in both academia and industrial settings, with current attention to their involvement in viral infections, immunity and drug response variation in humans.
